A fun pattern for vintage grille lovers who are passionate about crafted works from the past. This old style window grille creates for me memory of my aunty playing mahjong with her friends on a hot sunny weekend afternoon, with both mahjong clanging sound and occasional breeze wafting in and out through the patterned grilles, in an era when air-conditioning was still a rarity. Their kids would occupy themselves playing rubber-band skipping game called ‘zero point’ at the HDB corridor. Window grilles are like eye lashes, providing aesthetic layering and elegance to an otherwise brutal form. They are a less celebrated architectural feature but take no lesser place in our memories of meaningful spaces.
