We love our bridges for a few reasons. They make our travel quicker and easier in a dense city like Singapore. At certain part of our lives, man of us lived near some of them. For me, the daily doggie runs, breakfast catchup with friends or simply a leisure stroll along Singapore River to the Marina Bay over the weekends had left many of our happy footprints and pawprints on them. The process of creating this design brought back those cheery times and instantly warmed my heart.
Historically, some of them remind us of Singapore’s beginning and the hard fought journey to where we are today. These structures, some of which were built more than a century ago, represent the engineering ingenuity of their time and serve as a testament to the developmental milestones of modern Singapore. Paying an ode to both the old and new bridges of Singapore, this pattern reminds me of the amazing feats of engineering and architecture that have helped to shape the nation. It allows us to appreciate the heritage and history of the older bridges and, at the same time, recognize the modern infrastructure that will continue to shape Singapore’s future development in the years to come. Essentially, paying tribute to Singapore’s bridges is a homage to the spirit of innovation, enterprise, and progress that characterizes Singapore’s unique identity.
The nine bridges in this pattern are Cavenagh, Anderson, Alkaff, Coleman, Elgin, Read, Ord, Lorong Halus Red and Tan Kim Seng.
