Kopi-kaya-loti, the simplest of local breakfast, is one Singapore hawker food that has thrived in both city and heartlands through generations. Especially on weekends, local kopee diam is usually a boisterous affair with shop helpers weaving through tables of customers while shouting out orders to the kitchen, parents and kids happily satisfying themselves with toasted bread overflowing with kaya and butter, friends chatting over kopi and teh about the latest at work, grandpa whiling away time with a cup of kopee, soft-boiled eggs and local newspaper in hand.
