Like many design lovers, I’m always drawn towards these beautiful handmade tiles found along the 5-foot way of old shophouses in Emerald Hill, Katong, Little India, Kampong Glam, Chinatown and other areas. A window to the past, this pattern celebrates the period when things are handcrafted with passion and patience, It also evokes fond memory of those sun-filled mornings when we, as kids, would enjoy playtime with our neighbours and infuse the 5-foot ways with our laughters, and when sharing was the hallmark of communal spaces.
